The Old Lecavalier

Tampa Bay LightningThe Tampa Bay Lightning went to the grind with the Minnesota Wild last night what most could have considered a lack luster show of ability.

One a more positive note, Vincent Lecavalier showed glimpses of his former self.

Now don’t look too much into that statement as he is still not back to his old form just yet. From what I saw last night was a Vinny that was playing with more heart and intensity then he has showed in quite some time. Maybe all the ribbing that he is getting from head coach Tocchet has gotten to him and the fire has been ignited.

He was visibly fighting for position and (FINALLY) ending checks! He may have only had one shot on goal but he did make his presence known by winning 57% of his faceoff’s and ending the night even (+/-). And……get this…no hold on one second….he scored during the shootout!!

Maybe the greatest highlight for him on this night was the fact that he was brought out to play defense with Mattias Ohlund in the overtime period. What I could see was that he showed up to play in this game when many others did not.

To say that the Lightning appeared to be a step behind and sluggish would be an understatement. On this night they were if not anything but lucky to come back to get this win. The team does not appear to be playing as a unit at this time.

Maybe the pressures of individual performance should be put on the back burner in an attempt to gel as a unit. One player can change the outcome of a game but a team as a whole puts a win on the board.

Here’s hoping for a better performance come tomorrow night.
