Poking around Poker

A good friend of mine who shall remain nameless (Wayne) has currently fallen into the wonderful world of Poker. Now, I am going to go on the record and say that I don’t consider this to be an official sport of any kind but more of a pastime for some.

Anyway you may be wondering why I would be writing about this subject as it does not fall into my category of sporting news, well here goes. I know diddly squat about poker or any of the other card games that may be associated with it.   But in a fair attempt, I am going to do some research and maybe head to a casino to try my hand at this ever growing popular game.

dogs-playing-pokerI do not expect to join this bandwagon even though the odds are against me.  I just want to be better educated with some of my friends’ hobbies.   So if any of you out there in the poker world have any tips, tricks or advice for me I would greatly appreciate it!

Also look for more articles in the future about this subject as I have asked nameless (Wayne) to write about his passion.

Well thank you for this, although Poker isn’t a sport in the world of NBA, NFL, and NHL and so on, poker is sweeping the world by storm. Poker is like any other sports you play without the team aspect, the old saying there is no I in TEAM well poker is about the I, you make your own fate and the harder you practice the better you can get just like a sport. One form of poker I play and fell in love with is Texas Hold ‘em the most popular form of poker in the world today. Hold em consist of 2-10 players all playing against each other. Unlike most sports anyone can play if you have a deck of cards, it don’t matter of your age, height, weight. Poker is mentally hard; just picture playing cards for 8.5 Million Dollars for 17 hours (that was the time it took for 1 player to win the 2009 World Series Of Poker or W.S.O.P.) with Millions of people watching you. The winner of this W.S.O.P. was only 21 years old (this is the age you have to be to play) 21 winning 8.5 million in cash, and millions more in sponsorship. I think this is what draws people to this game; anyone can win at anytime with the right cards and the knowledge of the game. Is it a sport yet, No, someday could it be, why not?
