I Got Beef
I guess tonight is the night that I am going to get all my grievances out in the open. I have a problem….a problem with DirecTV.
So I decided that this year I was going to upgrade my cable from the standard addition to the elite DirecTV. The basis of this decision was so that I could get every possible sports station that was available. I carefully checked all the packages that they had to offer and came to the conclusion that the standard package with all 30+ sports stations would not be enough for me.
On impulse I told the lovely representative that I wanted the extra extra sports package that would now bump me up to 70+ stations of just sports. Boy was I excited, I might even go as far to say that I had perma-grin! I just couldn’t get over the fact that I was going to be able to watch the Penguins on FSN Pittsburgh from the comfort of my Miami apartment!!
In the back of my mind I knew there had to be catch but at the moment it was too good to be true. Well as I settled down to watch a Celtic’s game that night cause now I had Comcast New England and could keep up with the green, the screen went black and left me a message that read “channel not purchased.” WHAT? REALLY? YOU CAN’T BE SERIOUS? S##%? My second instinct right after yelling at the TV was to call this DirecTV up and try to get some seriously needed answers.
What I got, I can tell you did not make me happy, I almost felt a slight depression coming on. The representative, let’s call her Susan, told me that in order to see any games I would need to purchase the NBA League Pass, NHL Center Ice, or NFL Ticket.
So here I am thinking I have hit the jackpot but in reality I got played….like a violin. I have all these great sport stations that go black when a game comes on. I have resorted to staying up late in order to see the replay of the game that happened two hours earlier.
I do feel a lot better now that I have got this into the open. I am grateful I get to see the games but they lose a bit of the excitement when you already know the score to the game or when someone wants to be mean and tell you exactly what went on.
In short my DirecTV is good for WE TV and the SoapNetwork so I can keep up with the latest happenings on General Hospital but not so great with keeping up with the Celtic’s or Penguins….Late nights turn into even later mornings!
